Tree blocking road, but no instructions for SBS driver

I WOULD like to raise my concern about SBS Transit's service standards in terms of responding to unforeseen situations.
On Wednesday, at about 11pm, I boarded service 97 from the Esplanade. At around 11.20pm, the bus came to a halt a few stops from National University Hospital. A tree had fallen and was blocking the road.
As it was pouring, many commuters waited in the bus. I waited until 12.05am before I decided to flag a cab from another location.
I incurred the cost of having to take a cab home because there was no hint as to when the tree would be moved away, and also because the bus driver did not seem to be getting any instructions about route changes.
I was baffled by the slow response by SBS. According to the bus driver, SMRT bus service 963 changed its route to get commuters to their destinations. Yet SBS services were stranded on the road, waiting for headquarters to send instructions.
I would like to hear what SBS Transit has to offer as an explanation.
